Calm timer

This is the same timer with a different ending. Instead of a chime that arrives at full volume in a single instant, it ramps up from silence over a little more than a second, an octave lower, and fades out slowly.

The thing that makes an alarm startling is the attack, not the volume. A sound that jumps from nothing to full loudness is what produces the flinch, and turning the volume down just produces a quieter flinch. Ramping the same sound in removes the startle without making it easy to miss.

This matters for autistic and sound-sensitive people, for anyone with anxiety around alarms, and in classrooms where a sharp noise derails the room more than the timer ending ever did. Set any length you like; the ending is what changes.
