When a browser timer is not enough

This site is a browser timer, so start with the honest version: for most things, it is fine. A tab left open on a laptop will ring.

Where browser and phone timers genuinely fail is the case gotimer itself had to fix. Browsers stop running animation frames in a background tab completely, and throttle ordinary timers in a tab that has been hidden a while and is not playing audio, sometimes to once a minute. Phones sleep their screens. So the failure is not that the timer is wrong, it is that the alarm arrives late, and you find out afterwards.

If that matters for what you are timing, the answer is a device whose only job is timing. Three that solve distinct problems:

When not to buy anything

A single timer, on a screen you are looking at, in a tab you are not going to hide: that is this site, and it is free. Most people do not need hardware. The reason this page exists is that the times you do need it are exactly the times a silent failure costs you something.
